Ozone combined unit "Ozone UM-80 ozonator + low temperature ozone steriliser"
Ozone combined unit "Ozone UM-80 ozonator + low temperature ozone steriliser"
The appliance is a universal medical apparatus, the first to have been constructed in Ukraine, the CIS and the world, which is intended for the application of ozone as a medicinal remedy to treat various conditions and for low temperature sterilisation of medical instruments, optics and other medical devices. The apparatus has been certified by the Ukrainian and Russian Ministries of Health.

1. The given ozone combined unit is universal since it produces both low therapeutic ozone concentrations (ranging from 0.0 to 10.0 mg/l) and high ozone concentrations (ranging from 10.0 to 80 mg/l), applied in therapy, surgery, ophthalmology to treat infectious diseases as well as in urology, venereology, obstetrics, gynaecology, dentistry, paediatrics, anesthesiology, dermatocosmetology etc. The apparatus is designed for local and systemic application, thus permitting the administration of more than 30 methods of ozone therapy.

2. The ozone combined unit is also universal as it allows selective low temperature ozone sterilisation of medical instruments, devices for laparoscopy, endoscopy, cystoscopy, optics, stomatological instruments and other medical devices. The ozone gas method of low-temperature sterilisation ensures the sterilisation of various medical instruments either packed or unpacked at the temperature in the sterilising chamber constituting 40ºC. The combined unit may be applied in treatment facilities, sanatoria, polyclinics and other medical establishments as well as in field military surgery and emergency medicine settings. The Institute of Ozone Therapy and Medical Equipment has been manufacturing appliances for ozone therapy, which are supplied and in operation in more than 14 countries of the world, Ukraine and Russia among them.

It’s possible to set and automatically control various modes with the help of the keyboard on the LCD: selection, setting, operation, stopping and starting, as well as digital values of ozone concentration, flow speed and operation time span. In order to increase the ozonator operation safety, create a power reserve, improve the operation stability, extend the service life, prevent the overheating of the discharge chamber, with due regard for the maximum ozone concentrations of up to 80 mg/l to be applied in medicine, as we have clinically proved, the abovementioned ozonator, which produces the maximum ozone concentration of 150 mg/l, is calibrated for the fine control of ozone concentration ranging from 0,0 up to 80-100 mg/l with the step of 0,1 mg/l, at any oxygen flow rate. As evidenced by the experience of operating other manufacturers’ ozonators, the discharge chamber overheating may result in heightened fire hazard.

Thus, even producing such a high and unattainable for other manufacturers ozone concentration of 80?100,0 mg/l, the ozonator operates at half its capacity, and with low concentrations it works hundreds of times below its full capacity, which guarantees its safe and long service life, as has been attested to by its safe operation spanning 12 years. The OZONE UM-80 ozonator with an inbuilt ozone concentration gauge has been constructed on the component basis of the leading foreign firms. We provide PC-assisted metal cutting and case manufacturing at the works as well as double coating with ozone-resistant French powder paint processed at t=200°Ñ. The assembly of SMD electronic components and microprocessors is carried out on the special German ERSA automated lines in compliance with the ISO – 9001 standard.

To enhance the reliability of ozonator operation, the manufacturers have implemented foreign technologies and design, the cutting-edge electronic and element base as well as new cases that belong to the class of double isolation installations, thus providing complete electrical safety for the service personnel.

The manufacturer guarantees warranty repair within the time span of 2 years and ozonator post-warranty service during the whole of its operation life, however, no less than 20 years.

With its technical specifications and treatment potential, the ozonator is a device of the new generation, the perfect in comparison with those of other manufacturers, the best in the CIS and second to none in the world. The time required to set operation modes of the ozonator has been reduced several times in contrast to other manufacturers.

KhARTRON – ENERGO Scientific-manufacturing enterprise (the leading developer of electronic equipment, automated machinery, software and space-rocket hardware control systems). At the present time it’s only the certified OZONE UM-80 ozonator that meets all the 25 medical-technical requirements for medical ozonators, approved by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health and the Ukrainian Association of Ozone Therapeutists and Medical Equipment Manufacturers.

The oxygen, finely purified by means of the additional filters, enters the space between two dielectrics – coaxially placed into each other glass tubes (the double barrier produced in Germany). One electrode is the outer metalised tube surface of a large diameter whereas the other electrode is the inner metalised tube surface of a smaller diameter. If high-tension current is delivered onto the metalised electrodes, an electric discharge emerges in the space between the outer and the inner tubes. The oxygen, passing through the discharge space between the two tubes (the double electric barrier of the discharge chamber), doesn’t contact the electrode metal at all and, consequently, there’s no transfer of ions and molecules of electrode metal and their oxides into the ozone-oxygen mixture. The purity of the ozonised oxygen mixture is provided by the additional filters of the two-tier oxygen purification system and the construction of the discharge chamber with the double barrier, due to which neither the oxygen nor the produced ozonised oxygen mixture can immediately contact with the metal of the electrodes. The double barrier principle in the discharge camera is employed by all the manufacturers in Germany, Italy, England, France and the only in the CIS Institute of ozone therapy and medical equipment. In all medical ozonators manufactured in the CIS, the electric discharge passes between two plates or tubes made of noncorrosive steel, the so-called "one barrier”. According to the data of Moscow State University, the temperature in the discharge point of the "one barrier” ozonator reaches 1000°Ñ thus allowing for the transfer of rustless steel metal ions into the ozonised oxygen mixture and then into the ozonised physiological solution. When subject to repairs, such ozonators exhibit numerous indentations on the inner surfaces of noncorrosive plates especially after the spillage of the discharge chamber with physiological solution, which attests to the fact that metal grams have been transferred parenterally. There’s an Italian reductor of fine pressure adjustment additionally built into the ozonator to ensure its protection from excessive pressure at the oxygen inlet. In order to guarantee operation and fire safety and to automatically check the overheating of the discharge chamber and inner systems, there are highly sensitive Japanese electronic detectors of pressure, temperature, electric power overload installed, which prevent the spillage of physiological solution over the ozonator and switch off the ozonator at the slightest hazard, with the error code shown on the colour display, which is accompanied by a sound signal. There is a special device for mounting the destructor, for moistening ozonised oxygen mixture and preparing ozonised physiological solution on the side panel.
The apparatus permits the adjustment and setting the speed of ozone-oxygen mixture delivery at 0.5; 1.0; 2.0 litre/min., which is entered, fixed on the display and rigidly maintained by the automated system.

The risk of accidental ozone inhalation impact is reduced to the minimum due to the application of the reliable catalytic or additional import destructor, ozone-resistant materials and the pressure-tight connections.

The apparatus allows for a German ozone-resistant vacuum-pump with the output of up to 2.0 l/min., with the fine adjustment of rarefaction of up to 80.0 kPa, for creating vacuum and pumping the ozonised oxygen mixture through the destructor out of the gas-flow chambers after the administration of local procedures. The above mentioned ozone-resistant vacuum-pump can also be used in dermatocosmetology for vacuum-massage, face cleansing, lymphodrainage, resorption of scars, treating cellulite and boosting the breast volume. The time function is provided in the ozonator, which allows the owner of the ozonator to automatically and constantly control and determine the time of the personnel operating the ozonator by progressive total. The ozonator also features an electronic slot enabling it to be connected to a PC.

The possibility of setting various combinations of treatment procedure parameters on the ozonator monitor (ozone concentration, ozone mixture delivery speed and the duration of the procedure) enables doctors to perform reasonable, predictable, dose-dependent ozone therapy, precisely and accurately dosing the amount of ozone and applying it in very much the same way as pharmacological remedies.

Over 13 years of application, the OZONE UM-80 ozonator, sophisticated inside, but very easy to control and operate, has gained a firm standing as a reliable, safe source of medical ozone, meeting all the present-day medical as well as sanitary and hygienic requirements.

2.1. OVERVIEW and OPERATION PRINCIPLES of the LOW TEMPERATURE OZONE STERILISER:

The development of modern medical equipment calls for new effective approaches of low temperature sterilization. Surgical instruments with micron sharpening, endoscopic and laparoscopic equipment, optics, various catheters (with the application of polymers, optics, adhesive joints), together with plastics used for internal and external prosthetics in traumatology, stomatology, facial surgery, etc., do not stand high temperature treatment with air or steam under pressure.

At present treatment and prophylactic institutions of Ukraine, Russia and other countries use liquid and gas methods of low temperature sterilization based on highly toxic chlorinates, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, hydrogen peroxide, the application of which is connected with the following problems: long period of sterilization (4-6 hours); difficulties caused by utilization of reagents and their unfavourable influence on environment; necessity of removing reagents remaining from instruments and equipment, cleansing in sterile water or long-time aerating with sterile air; unfavorable influence of different sterilizing agents and their derivatives on the health of the medical personnel, involved in the sterilisation procedures.

The ozone gas method of low-temperature sterilisation ensures reliable, environmentally sustainable, economical and delicate processing of expensive medical equipment and instruments, ensuring high-quality sterilisation of various medical instruments either packed or unpacked at the low technological temperature in the sterilising chamber constituting 30-40ºC.

The ozone gas method of low temperature sterilisation is an energy-saving method, with the complete processing cycle of 140 minutes, requiring no expendable service materials, allowing processing thermosensitive materials, thus, making the sterilizer a convenient, easy to operate and ready to run appliance. The high sterilisation quality has been attested to by the reports on technical, sanitary and hygienic, toxicological, pre-clinical and clinical trial tests in various institutes, scientific centres and hospitals at the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, Academy of medical sciences and State standards of Ukraine.

Medical low-temperature ozone sterilizer is intended for the following equipment, instruments and devices:

- surgical; - stomatological;
- anesthetic; - gastroenterological;
- dermatovenereological; - endovideosurgical;
- resuscitation; - reflexotherapy
- various needles and catheters; - urologynecological;
- neonatological; - ophthalmological;
- bandaging material; - proctological;
- orthopaedic; - endoscopic;
- laparoscopic; - microsurgical;
- traumatological; - cosmetological;
- barber's and hairdresser's instruments; - oncological;
- cosmetological;

The low temperature ozone steriliser has been entered into the State register of medical equipment in Ukraine and awarded the Certificate of state registration at the Ukrainian Ministry of Heaäth (reference ¹6395/2007 dated 26.04.2007, prolonged till 08.06. 2017).

It was also given the State sanitary and epidemiological examination report issued by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, endorsed by the Chief state doctor (reference ¹ 05.03.02-07/46770 as of 02.10.2006), confirming the compliance of the low temperature ozone steriliser with the effective sanitary legislation of Ukraine and recommending it for the designated application.

Proceeding from the examination report given by the State sanitary and epidemiological commission at the Ukrainian Ministry of Health (reference ¹05.03.02-07/46769 as of 02.10.22006), the manufacturing standards of the present steriliser (reference 33.1-30881586-002:2006) shall conform to the effective sanitary legislation of Ukraine.

With its technical specifications the steriliser is a device of the new generation, the best in the CIS and second to none in the world. It’s protected by the Patent of Ukraine (reference ¹ 24146).

Ozone combined unit "Ozone UM-80 ozonator + low temperature ozone steriliser"The lower block – sterilising chamber consists of a metal case with the front door on special inner hinges with a special clamping handle, which ensures its tight closing. The front door provides hermeticity of the sterilisation chamber due to the ozone-resistant sealants, with the hermetic seal used at atomic power stations, which prevents ozone leakage in any operation modes. The sterilisation chambers can conveniently hold long instruments due to their internal dimensions, which are as follows 340 (width)õ 430 (depth)õ300 (height) mm, the diagonal size constitutes 520 mm. The external dimensions of the sterilisation chamber are 425.00 (width, including 70mm of the humidifier) õ 480.00(depth, including the 30mm door handle) õ330.00mm (height). Ozone combined unit "Ozone UM-80 ozonator + low temperature ozone steriliser"The lower block mass is 15.3 kg. The sterilisation chamber can conveniently hold various instruments and optics on two retractable trays of stainless steel with slots. The side panel features a special device with a bottle filled with distilled water to moisturise ozone-oxygen mixture and a special German ozone-resistant destructor. Humidification and compulsive ozonised oxygen mixture circulation in the chamber ensure the high-quality treatment of hidden and inner surfaces of the instruments. The manufactured cases are covered with double-layer ozone resistant French powder coating processed in a special furnace at the temperature of 200-300°Ñ.

The front panel features a blue colour LCD with the keyboard for selecting, setting and controlling different operation modes.

Ozone combined unit "Ozone UM-80 ozonator + low temperature ozone steriliser"Sterilization is effected with high, however, individually adjusted ozone concentration produced in the ozone generator of the OZONE UM-80 ozonator from oxygen.

After the NETWORK button on the rare panel has been pressed, the apparatus is turned on, heated, automatically calibrated and the blue LCD is switched on indicating that the ozonator is ready for operation.

If the operator presses the SELECTION button, he/she can select and set the digital values of parameters and the following ozonator operation modes: FLOW, OZONE, TIME. The selected operation parameters intermittently flash on the display and allow the operator to set the following operation modes in any combination:

FLOW – the consumption (flow speed) of the ozone-oxygen mixture ranging from 0 up to 2.0 l/min.

OZONE – the concentration of the produced ozonised oxygen mixture from 0.0 p to 100.0 mg/l

TIMER – duration of the ozone production from 0.0 up to 180.0 minutes and its switching off upon completion.

If (+) or (-) pressed either for a short time or continuously, the digital value increases or decreases on the display respectively and the prescribed value is set. If the button is set free, the prescribed value is fixed.

After all the necessary parameters have been selected and all the number values have been set, the START button is pressed, thus the display shows OPERATION MODE SETTING, the apparatus is started, the production of ozone-oxygen mixture is launched and the OPERATION comes out on the display with the indication of all the specific digital values and parameters of the device in operation. As soon as the set duration of ozone generation has elapsed, the TIMER automatically turns off the apparatus. If the operator presses STOP, the operation is stopped.

The advantages of ozone steriliser:

  • due to its sterilization and technical characteristics this environmentally-friendly steriliser greatly surpasses in quality other ultra-violet sterilisers, dry-heated air sterilisers, steam autoclaves, liquid and gas sterilisers. Ozone is the strongest oxidant; it is ten times stronger than chlorine, that’s why it ruins membrane, cell-organelle of bacteria, viruses and other pathogenic microorganisms as well as fungi. The bactericidal effect of the quartz radiation during 60 minutes is equal to the bactericidal effect of the 3-minute ozone sterilisation;
  • the highest ozone sterilisation dose of 2400 gr(min./m? in comparison with other ozone sterilisers, produced by other manufacturers (that of the best foreign ones constitutes not more than 1200 gr(min./m?), which provides the possibility of sterilising both packed and unpacked tool kits wrapped in special packets for gas sterilisation;
  • since endoscopic, surgical, and other equipment is produced by different manufacturers, consequently containing parts from different plastic materials and rubber of varying composition and quality, it’s not always possible to foresee ozone impact on them. The present steriliser is the only one in the world to permit selecting individual sterilisation modes with due regard for the materials used. It also allows for delicate, careful, continuous and, most importantly, ensured sterilisation of various medical equipment and tools after the ozone-resistance tests have been conducted;
  • the lowest price in contrast to other sterilisers produced by other foreign manufacturers;
  • no chemically stable and expensive toxic disinfectant and service materials required;
  • the availability of single-use chemical indicators for express-tests to ensure control over the course of sterilisation and the performance of steriliser;
  • possibility of installing the steriliser directly in the consulting or operating room;
  • possibility of leaving the instruments in the steriliser after the sterilisation;
  • for the purpose of raising the quality of sterilization, all the ozone-oxygen mixture is moisturised while passing through the distilled water by means of a special device.

The steriliser is universal as it ensures effective sterilisation of a broad range of devices and instruments for various purposes made of corrosion-resistant metals and alloys, (rustless steel, titanium etc), as well as examination and surgical (otolaryngological, stomatological, gynaecological etc) instruments, objects made of plastic materials (fluoroplastic, PVC, polyurethane, polyethylene etc), medical ozone-resistant rubbers (silicone etc), polymers, epoxy resins and glass.

The sterilisation with ozone within the time span of 140 minutes comprises three cycles as follows: pre-sterilising process, the sterilisation proper and the removal with decomposition of the ozonised oxygen mixture by means of the inbuilt destructors till the concentration values of the ozone contained therein are lower than the MPC constituting 0,1 mg/m3. While the steriliser is being turned on, the automatic control system checks the functionality of all the systems and launches the sterilisation cycle. If the door of the apparatus is accidentally or mistakenly opened during its operation, the operation is stopped.

1. Pre-sterilising cycle lasts 20 minutes, during which the air in the sterilisation chamber is ousted by the ozone-oxygen mixture. This happens in the following way: the oxygen is delivered into the discharge chamber of the ozone generator. With the prescribed ozone concentration of 25-50 mg/l (g/m3), the ozone-oxygen mixture proceeds into the sterilisation chamber out of the discharge chamber of the ozone generator. While the sterilisation chamber is loaded with the ozone-oxygen mixture, the air in the sterilisation chamber is removed through the special destructor into the working area.

2. Sterilisation proper. The very instant the sterilisation chamber has been loaded with the ozone-oxygen mixture, the 100-minute-long sterilisation cycle commences. During the sterilisation cycle the ozone-oxygen mixture with the ozone concentration of no less than 25 g/m3 constantly circulates inside the steriliser and is removed through the destructor into the working area.

3. The 20-minute removal and the decomposition of the ozonised oxygen mixture takes place the instant the sterilisation cycle has been finished, during which the air in the sterilisation chamber is ousted by the ozone-oxygen mixture. The ozonised oxygen mixture from the sterilisation chamber is pumped through the destructor where the destruction of ozone concentration lower than the MPC takes place.

When the sterilisation is over, the apparatus automatically turns off.

The possibility of selecting and setting various combinations of operation parameters on the ozonator monitor (ozone concentration, ozone delivery speed and the cycle duration) enables doctors to perform reasonable, predictable and environmentally sustainable gas sterilisation at low temperatures.

Over 7 years of using and operating the low temperature ozone steriliser in hospitals, institutes, sanatoria, outpatient department settings and other medical facilities, the apparatus has positioned itself as reliable, safe, easy to use and operate, fully complying with the present-day medical requirements and effective sanitary legislation of Ukraine.
